We are testing adding templates and have added a test template, once I add it and increase the width this is not updated on the designer. The length works fine, just width.

Welcome to our forum.
This depends on your theme content wrapper, please see the screenshot, you should use full-width template for designer page, although we are working for this issue to handle from our plugin.
