configuring product customizer

I'm having some issues configuring your plugin. I have set up a template for T-shirts and went into my products and chose the template but right under the template it has another option but it just says none and does not give me any other options. When I go to the product designer inside the product it says I have to set a variance but I did see that the template is chosen. Please help.
