Can center buttons be relative to background not canvas?

The designed product image needs to be print-quality which is much bigger than the web browser canvas can be. Zooming out lets me work on the bigger image, but the editor's "center horizontally" and "center vertically" buttons remain relative to the canvas size not the background. Is there any way to make them relative to the background?
