I have tried the free version of the plugin and am interested in upgrading but would like to know if it's possible to use / expose extra fields in a custom post type.
I want to use post grid to display content in a custom post type that includes a featured image and a custom URL. I would like my Post Grid to display the image and, when clicked, go to the custom post type's URL field instead of the post ID.
If this is possible with the pro version, it would be nice to know.

Yes, you can display custom meta field value via layout editor in pro version.
if your meta field value has an array value i would like to use filter hook to display on the grid by generating output by yourself. the layout editor is not advance to display for array value or objects.
there is also HTML element on layout editor you can use it for displaying any shortcode.
There is some filter hook available for grid items you can add custom html under any element on grid.
