Can I select size of the images in the slider and select wich products should show up in the slider in the free version of wcps ?

Yes you can select image size under Elements tab > Thumbnail click to expand

you can display product by category selection but this feature only available in premium version only, although there is a filter hook so you can pass custom arguments on query products.
