In Layout Editor I'm getting 2 images when I add "content" to a layout. Can I get just one image? There is only one image in the post and no featured image.

Welcome to our forum. There is default thumbnail you could stop loading from option unchecked "Media source" https://imgur.com/a/XscHk you could thumbnail remove from layout editor. Regards
